Find out more about the attractions in this wonder city. Saskatoon was started in 1882 by John Lake who chose a site on the east bank of the Saskatchewan river to establish a temperance colony. The site was named "Saskatoon", from the Cree word "missakqhahtoomina", that means a large delicious purple berry.
